Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
You can reach out to us directly to register — no doctor's note or specialist referral required.
Will I receive a written report?
Yes. Following the evaluation, you will receive a comprehensive written report summarizing the assessment results, any neuropsychological conclusions reached, and personalized recommendations. The report is reviewed with you during your results appointment and can be shared with other professionals involved in your care.
How should I prepare for the evaluation?
Your neuropsychologist will clarify any specific preparation required before your appointment. As a general rule, it helps to ensure the person being evaluated is well-rested and has eaten beforehand, as the sessions can be cognitively demanding.
Can the report be used to obtain accommodations at school, CEGEP, or university?
Yes. Neuropsychological reports are widely accepted in support of requests for academic accommodations — whether an individualized education plan (IEP) at the primary or secondary level, or adapted services at the CEGEP or university level. Your neuropsychologist will discuss how the report can best serve your needs.
Is a neuropsychological evaluation covered by RAMQ or private insurance?
Neuropsychological evaluations in the private sector are not covered by RAMQ. That said, many private insurance plans do include coverage for neuropsychology — we recommend checking with your insurer directly to confirm your benefits before starting.
What is the difference between a neuropsychological and a psychological evaluation?
A neuropsychological evaluation focuses specifically on the relationship between brain function and behaviour — mapping cognitive domains such as attention, memory, processing speed, executive functions, language, and motor skills to understand how a person's brain is performing. It is used to identify cognitive profiles, establish neuropsychological conclusions, and assess the impact of neurodevelopmental or acquired conditions on daily functioning.
A psychological evaluation is more broadly oriented toward mental health, emotional functioning, personality, and behaviour. While there is overlap — both can, for example, assess for ADHD — the tools and clinical lens differ. Your neuropsychologist can help determine which type of evaluation best fits your situation.
Is the evaluation a one-time process, or will follow-up appointments be needed?
A neuropsychological evaluation is a defined assessment process — it does not include ongoing therapy. In most cases, it is completed in a single round of appointments. In some situations, however, results may be less conclusive due to confounding factors such as anxiety, developmental stage, or other variables that can affect performance. When this occurs, your neuropsychologist may recommend a reevaluation a few years down the line, once those factors have stabilized.
What languages are evaluations offered in?
Evaluations are available in French and English.
