Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

You can reach out to us directly to register — no doctor's note or specialist referral required.

Does a person need a diagnosis before starting?

An evaluation is typically the first step before beginning intervention. It allows your clinician to identify the nature and extent of the difficulty and build an intervention plan targeted to the individual's specific speech and language needs.

How long does an evaluation take?

Evaluation length varies depending on the person's age, the nature of the difficulty, and whether a complete assessment is needed to reach a clinical conclusion.

How many sessions will I need?

It's impossible to say in advance — response to intervention varies significantly from person to person. After the evaluation, your clinician will give you a clearer picture of what to expect, and the plan is revisited and adjusted as you progress.

Is speech-language pathology covered by health insurance?

SLP services in the private sector are not covered by RAMQ. That said, many private insurance plans do include coverage for speech-language pathology — we recommend checking with your insurer directly to confirm your benefits before starting.

Are parents expected to attend sessions?

It depends. Parent involvement varies case by case, and is shaped by factors such as the child's age, the nature of the difficulty, and the therapeutic approach. Your clinician will discuss what level of involvement makes sense for your situation.

Is there a minimum age to start?

There is no minimum age. Language development begins in the earliest months of life, and early intervention — when there are signs of concern — is generally more effective. If you have questions about your child's development, it's never too early to reach out.

What languages are sessions offered in?

Sessions are available in French and English.
